NO LEAVE UNTIL NOVEMBER 30TH: MATIANG’I TELLS OFFICIALS

The Cabinet Secretary of Education, AMB. Dr. Amina Mohamed today held a joint meeting with Cabinet Secretary for Interior & Coordination of National Government – Kenya, Fred Matiang’i and other officials from the ministry to lay down strategies that will eliminate exam cheating ahead of the KCPE and KCSE.

CS Matiang’i assured the CS Education of 100% from his ministry support saying that all candidates will sit for the examination and troubled areas will be kept under 24/7 surveillance. He added that, seventy thousand police officers will be deployed to guard the national examinations.

“I want to assure my colleague who is leading us this year in this exercise, Ambassador Amina Mohamed, that we will give her and the entire team in the education sector 100 per cent support from the security team.”

Speaking at the Kenya School of Government, Dr. Matiang’i said that no security personnel or officials in the Interior Ministry will be allowed to go on leave until November 30th after the examinations saying that this is a critical time in the national calendar.

‘This is a critical time. No one will be on leave from the interior Ministry. Leave is hereby suspended until 30th; We will all be on duty. My calendar has been cleared from 29th October to 29th November and I will be at the containers with you,” said the CS, referring to the containers where the examination papers and other exam materials will be secured.

The officers, sub county directors of education and deputy county commissioners who will receive the keys of the four hundred and fifty nine containers will be the only ones allowed to open them.

 

 

 

The CS also alluded to the fact that his ministry is working with the Director of Public Prosecutions, Director of Criminal Investigations and the Inspector General of Police to stop this menace of exam cheating saying, “Our resolve has not changed… our mission still remains the same… our focus is still the same… and our commitment is even stronger; that we will deliver clean exams, that we will continue the legacy of honesty and integrity in the way we manage our education system in the country.”
