Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe has been declared fit to stand trial after passing a mental assessment test on Thursday as per the orders of the High court.

Justice Jessie Lesiit said that Maribe, a second respondent in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani, could not take plea before undergoing a mental examination, which determines if she is fit to stand trial.

A new development has emerged a day after Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe underwent a mental assessment test at the Mathare Mental hospital, as ordered by the court. In a report by Citizen Digital, after the assessment the TV journalist was found fit to stand trial in connection to the murder of business woman Monica Kimani.

Justice Lesiit directed Maribe undergoes a mental test at the Mathare Mental Hospital before being presented in court on Monday, October 15.

Lawyers said Maribe and her fiancé Joseph Irungu alias Jowie will now take plea on Monday as was scheduled.

The duo are to face charges of murder after Monica Kimani was found dead in her Kilimani apartment on September 20.

Ms. Maribe and her fiancé Joe Irungu who is the primary suspect in the murder will take a plea on Monday next week.

Jowie, the main suspect in the case, was arrested on September 24 after police placed him at the scene of the crime.

This comes a day after Jacque Maribe’s neighbour Brian Kassaine was released after being in custody for more than 10 days and was ordered to report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters once every week for the next two months.

Mr. Kassaine is a neighbour to Ms. Maribe and was found to have given Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu an unlicensed gun which the prime suspect used to shoot himself in an attempted suicide.

Reports indicate that Brian Kassaine has turned into a state witness after he gave testimony against the two.
