Irungu’s lawyer questions the court over delayed treatment

Tv anchor Jacque Maribe and Joseph Irungu who are in police custody for being linked to the murder of Monica Kimani were today arraigned in court.  In Irungu’s defence, his lawyer said that Irungu has an urgent need  medical treatment/ attention. The lawyer questioned  why the order which had been given by the court from the second day of this month concerning Jowie’s treatment had not been followed up.

He also noted that a referral note was given to allow Joseph Irungu to be taken for surgical procedures, yet it has not been done, “his hand has gone numb and paralyzed he cannot be able to do anything with the hand, there is some swelling inside and puss coming out any delay to take him to hospital cold be a threat to his health. ”

The lawyer then submitted the referral note from Nairobi Hospital to Kenyatta hospital to Judge Jessie Lessit before the court.

Joseph Irungu has been nursing a gunshot wound since the claims that he was shot by gunmen, claims that were rubbished by police reports after they stated that the wound was suspected to be a result of the a suicide attempt which is alleged to have been triggered by an argument between Maribe and Irungu.

Earlier last week on a live interview, the parents of Joseph Irungu had raised the concern of their son not getting the treatment required.

28-year-old Monica Kimani was found dead in her apartment the same day she got back from South Sudan. Her brother is said to have found her lifeless body in the bath tub with her throat slit. Television journalist Jacque Maribe will be remanded at the Lang’ata Women’s Prison as she awaits a mental assessment to be conducted on her before taking plea, the High Court directed on Tuesday.

Maribe’s lawyer had requested that the court should allow  Maribe to take plea but this was disapproved by Justice Lesiit who directed that Maribe undergoes a mental test at the Mathari Mental Hospital before being presented in court on Monday, October 15.
