Here is Moses Kuria’s wish to Raila on referendum

Gatundu South member of parliament has written a note to ODM Party leader Raila Odinga whom he termed as his friend to propose to him his wishes on how referendum has to be conducted.

This followed Odinga’s Thursday message while in Rongo, Migori county where he was campaigning for his candidate in the October 8 senatorial by-elections, Ochilo Ayacko.

Odinga said that referendum was for the good of Kenya and thus inevitable.

The Gatundu south legislator first agreed with Odinga that the current 2010 constitution needs to be changed.

He however noted that the changes are about reducing the burden for Wanjiku and reducing elective and nominated positions but not adding positions.

Kuria further cited that the changes are not about adding the position of a Prime Minister or creating a parliamentary system.

He went on to cite that Kenya lost the entire year of 2017 to political campaigns which he wished not to happen again before the next electioneering period.

“We lost the entire 2017 to political campaigns. We can not waste more time doing the same. We cant spend another Ksh 45 Billion in a midterm referendum. We will therefore conduct the Punguza Mzigo Referendum alongside the 2022 General Elections as the 7th Ballot. Let us do this in a non-contentious way,”he noted.

He cited that he was willing to meet Odinga, Dr Ekuru Aukot and other pro-reform forces so that they lay strategy for the 2022 Seventh Ballot Referendum.
