Sonko blasted for ordering traders to sell 2kg Maize Flour at Ksh.75

Kenyans on twitter have blasted Nairobi County Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko for his directive to have all Nairobi traders sell 2 kg packet of maize flour at Ksh. 75.

Sonko gave the order citing that trade licences will be withdrawn from those who will flout the directive.

After Citizen TV posting Sonko’s directive on its official twitter Account, Kenyans on twitter flocked the account with hilarious and bitter reactions on Sonko’s directive.

They claim that price products are determined by several factors which Nairobi governor seem not to know and thus giving such orders will play a good PR stunt for him but affect traders.

Some accused Sonko for talking on behalf of farmers when himself doesn’t practise farming.

Sonko’s directive came as a result of high economy them followed the enacting and implementation of new taxes on several products.

At first the 8% VAT was targeted at petroleum products but Kenyans woke up in a shock after its implementation to realize that several products among them banking services were greatly affected.

The 8% tax was proposed by President Uhuru Kenyatta after he rejected to sign the finance bill presented to him by Members of Parliament seeking to suspend the 16 % VAT on fuel that had already been effected by Treasury cabinet secretary Henry Rotich.

The 8% VAT however passed in a controversial way marred with chaos and rigging in a special sitting by MPs.
