On Monday Kiambu magistrate allowed police to detain for 11 days two suspects in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.

Kiambu Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku first allowed the police to detain Citizen TV’s Jacque Maribe for 10 days at Gigiri Police station before allowing the police to detain Brian Kassaine for another 11 days at the Lang’ata Police Station.

Police had wanted Kassaine detained for 14 days to allow further investigations.

The prosecution said that the suspect has crucial information that could help in the completion of investigations into the murder Ms Kimani.

The suspect, through his lawyer, had opposed the application, terming the days which the police have requested for, as unreasonable.

Joseph Irungu, the main suspect in the murder was detained for 10 days last Wednesday.

Maribe’s vehicle is said to have been used by Joseph Irungu, a prime suspect in the murder case where as Kassaine is said to have given Irungu the gun used to commit the murder.

Irungu was arrested days later, following clues from an errand boy who had found him with Monica in the house, and police have since said he was indeed in the house after analyzing his phone records and his movements on the day.

“From a casual analysis, he was not shot but we are waiting for a medical report from the doctors to confirm. It is possible he inflicted the wound himself to confuse us but we are smarter than that,” a senior detective who interrogated him said.

The body of Monica, who operated her family business in South Sudan, was found in a bathtub, with her throat slit and her hands tied to the back.

According to reports, she was scheduled to visit Dubai to meet her South Sudanese boyfriend, with whom they were planning a wedding.

Her body was discovered by her brother who had unsuccessfully tried to phone her and opted to visit her house only to stumble on her body.

She was buried in their Nakuru home on Friday, and her father has pleaded to police to help them get justice.
