Some state officials are apparently demanding for the release of Joseph Irungu, who is in police custody over the murder of 28 year old Monica Kimani.

According to The Standard, the officials have visited Irungu both at Kilimani Police Stagnation and Muthaiga Police Station. The new revelations come at a time when rumors are going around that Irungu is bragging to police that the case will go nowhere.

Irungu is said to have been the last person to see Monica alive after she arrived from Juba to prepare for her 29th birthday and marriage plans.

On Wednesday, Kiambu High Court allowed detectives to detain Jowi for 10 days in order to complete investigations into the murder of the 28 year old.

Detectives have also recorded a statement from Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe over the murder. Maribe is Jowi’s girlfriend and is said to have been with the suspect on the night of the murder.

Monica’s body was found in the bathtub at her apartment along Denis Pritt road in Kilimani. Her throat had been slit and her hands had been tied behind her back.

Her remains were interred on Friday, at her parents’ farm in Gilgil in a ceremony attended by close friends and family.

Tens of friends and relatives who had come to bid her good bye braved the scorching sun as speaker after speaker spoke fondly of the deceased.
