President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday 24th September 2018 affirmed Kenya’s support of UN Political Declaration, declaring 2019-2028, the Nelson Mandela Decade of Peace.
While Speaking in New York during the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit on the sidelines of the 73rd UN General Assembly (UNGA) Uhuru called on other world leaders to emulate the values that defined Nelson Mandela.
He affirmed Kenya’s commitment to the values of Nelson Mandela and pursuance of the ideals that defined his legacy including the promotion of peace, reconciliation, non-discrimination as well as protection and promotion of human rights.

The President described the late Nelson Mandela as a beacon of hope, whose ideals continue to inspire Kenya to nurture and consolidate social cohesion and peaceful coexistence between people of different tribes and races.
He said that Kenya has over the years supported peace and political stabilization of Somalia through hosting and facilitation of negotiations, contributing troops to AMISOM and providing technical capacity support.
The Head of State added that through regional and international support, remarkable progress has been made in achieving peace and security in Somalia.
