Real Madrid’s derby plans put into jeopardy

Real Madrid will miss the services of Isco during this weekend’s Madrid derby after being diagnosed with appendicitis, with the midfielder due to undergo surgery.

The 26-year-old has played in all seven of Real Madrid’s matches this season and would have been likely to feature against Atletico at the Bernabeu on Saturday.

However, Real manager Julen Lopetegui said Isco was suffering with pain on Tuesday morning, and a Real statement added: “After tests were performed on Isco, he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis. The player will have surgery in the next hours.”

Speaking ahead of Real’s La Liga clash with Sevilla, Lopetegui said: “Hopefully everything goes well and he recovers as soon as possible. We wish him a speedy recovery and we’ll think about the solutions and those who can play because we have the utmost confidence in them.”

The time it takes to recover from an appendectomy(surgery to remove the appendix) can take up to four weeks.
