Former Nation media employee found dead

According to her father, Monica Nyawira Kimani, arrived in the country from South Sudan where she runs a family business and had allegedly met two friends on Wednesday night.

A former employee of Nation Media Group (NMG) was on Friday found dead in her house in Nairobi.

The body of Monica Nyawira Kimani was discovered in a bathtub  in Luciane apartments on Kitale Lane, off Dennis Pritt Road with her throat slit.

Her brother, George, said they found the body after breaking into her house.

“….tulivunja mlango tukaingia, nilipata amekatwa shingo na ako dipped in a bathtub with her hands tied and the water was running,” he told Citizen Digital.

“I came to check on her since my mother had called and she wasn’t picking. I sent her a message but she never replied yet we were to meet, since she was to travel to Dubai today,” he added.

A profile on her Facebook page indicates she was the international relations officer at the Kenyan embassy in Juba, South Sudan.

Monica, who studied diplomacy and international relations at the Technical University of Kenya, had also indicated she previously worked with the United Nations Development Programme.

The motive of her killing is not yet clear. According to her father, the 29-year-old arrived in the country from South Sudan where she runs a family business and had allegedly met two friends on Wednesday night.

In an interview, he said she had recently bought a house in Ruaka but wanted to live nearer to town hence she moved to Denis Pritt Road.

He wondered why anyone would kill his daughter, adding he would have offset any debts she may have incurred.

On August 30, Monica shared on Facebook the sad news of the death of her uncle, who also worked in South Sudan.
