How Pumwani hospital disposes 1000 infants every year.

An alarmingly high number of infants’ bodies being disposed of by the City Mortuary could be a cover-up for medical malpractices.

Pathologists claim that the disposal of infants without post mortem examinations is shielding some doctors and nurses from charges of medical malpractice.

According to a source at Pumwani, once an infant dies, the mother is informed and asked to choose whether she will bury the baby or the hospital do so. If she consents to the latter, she signs a form authorising disposal.

A practice two pathologists describe as “dangerous.” They argue that, through the mother signing the form before a post-mortem is done, doctors and nurses may be evading taking responsibility for medical malpractice.

A pathologist who asked not be named says: ” Many infants die during birth through medical negligence, but such cases never get to be known. And with children being disposed of without post-mortem, chances of cover-up are high.”

Other people argue that the disposal of infants in such way may be creating loopholes for child trafficking.

However a recent discovery of 12 babies hidden at the hospital has raised concerns as to whether is a case of childtrafficking.
