Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has opened up about how he found out of his sacking at Napoli, saying that he saw the news on television.
Sarri enjoyed a hugely successful 2017-2018 season guiding Napoli to a second-placed finish narrowly missing out on the Serie A title Juventus won. Chelsea, however, had a contrasting season that saw them finish fifth, thereby missing a UEFA Champions League slot, this ultimately led to the sacking of Antonio Conte.
In an interview with Italian daily Il Mattino Sarri revealed, “It’s true, I found out that I wasn’t the Napoli Coach anymore by seeing it on television. I had some doubts, that’s fair, but there was a clause in the contract and it wasn’t something I had asked for. It was not respected in the timing. Now I hope that Ancelotti can achieve what I came so close to.”
The Italian manager, however, holds no hard feelings as he thanked Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, “[I’m] grateful because he gave me the opportunity to be Coach of Napoli. I am very fond of his son (Vice-President Edoardo De Laurentiis).”
Chelsea next welcome Cardiff City to the Stamford Bridge on Saturday 15th September in a 5 PM kick off.
