A look at Sharon Otieno’s Social Media Profile will show you pictures of affluence. A woman whose life was being bankrolled by someone who has free access to the taxpayers money.

Dining in high end hotels, frequent trips to the airport and dressing in those clothes we only see in movies. She was living the dream of every campus girl. I bet she was the envy of her peers. But this is exactly what led to her death.

I am not trying to justify the heinous murder of the Rongo University student, who was seven months pregnant meaning we have lost two people, but it is also time we called a spade a spade. Kenyan University students must learn to live within their means.

This is not the first time we have seen a girl being killed in cold blood murder because of her relationship with the so called sponsors. Last year, Chris Musando was murdered with a woman who was believed to be his secret lover. The family of the girl is yet to come to terms with the death of their beloved daughter.

In 2016, another Slay Queen Cheryl Gitonga was heavily mentioned during the investigations into the murder of billionaire business mogul Jacob Juma.

When will our girls learn? Even as we mourn Sharon’s death, there is a girl somewhere waiting to be send money by these brutal Kenyan politicians.

Having a sponsor is not a problem. We live in tough economic times where everyone uses what they have to get what they don’t have.We will like your pictures on Instagram and IG when you go for holidays in Zanzibar. We will ask you where you got that expensive iPhone. But only your parents will feel the pain when you’re found murdered in a forest.

Being poor is not a crime as long as you’re working smart towards changing that status.
