Why Manchester City dropped Germany star

Pep Guardiola has opened up on his decision to totally omit winger Leroy from Manchester City’s squad to face Newcastle United-Sane watched the match from the stands.

City downed Newcastle United 2-1 with goals from Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker cementing the victory.

Sane failed to make a difference when he came on during Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Wolves in the previous fixture.

He has not started in any premier league fixture so far and it is understood the PFA’s Young Player of the Year performances in training could be the reason the manager continues to snub him.

Confirming the decision, Guardiola explained:

He was dropped from the squad.Last season he was such an important player for us and we hope this season he will be a really important player for us as well. The last game, Phil Foden was not in the squad. I was so sad for Phil like I am so sad for Leroy now.But we have a squad and sometimes we have to leave [players out] because we have six strikers and I decided to start with six strikers. We had two wingers and another one on the bench, which is why Leroy’s not
there.

Nonetheless, Germany manager Joachim Low has included Sane in the his squad scheduled to play France and Peru this
month
