Gor Mahia Coach Dylan Kerr Hangs Out with Fans in Kibera Ahead of Mashemeji Derby

Kibera residents were ecstatic from the moment they saw Gor coach Kerr and didn’t hold back when it came to shouting their allegiance to K’Ogalo.

Kerr was straight from an early morning training session with his team, with his traditional green and white attire standing out from the crowd, attracting attention from the entire community.

The derby comes with an extra bit of motivation for the record SportPesa Premier League (SPL) as a point against Leopards will mean they will undoubtedly be crowned champions for a record-extending 17th time.

His first stop was at the Woodley Grounds where he handed over football kits to 20 teams from Kibera, under the Kits for Africa project. The project is an initiative of Gor Mahia’s partner SportPesa and its international partners Everton, Hull City and Southampton.

“Thank you for coming today and I’m very honoured to be here.

Afterwards, the coach took a stroll through the streets of Kibera where he met even more fans who rushed to greet him and offer their two cents on the upcoming derby.

Kerr even took a ride on a boda boda (local taxi) before turning the tables and riding the boda boda himself, much to the elation of the onlooking K’Ogalo faithful.

“I’m excited that I finally got the chance to come to Kibera,” said Kerr.

“Without the fans, the club doesn’t exist and I am grateful for all the times you have been there for me and the team.

“I look forward to seeing you all there tomorrow as we aim to get a good result and secure the SPL title,” Kerr concluded.
