Wolves target heads to US for pre-season still hoping to sign Zinchenko

Oleksandr Zinchenko has joined Manchester City on their tour of the States this pre-season – but it’s believed that the defender is still extremely likely to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer amid strong interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Indeed, it’s been claimed that City have accepted a £16m bid from Nuno Espirito Santo for the promising youngster.

Wolves have courted Zinchenko over the past few weeks, but they’re not alone; fellow promoted club Fulham are also in the market for a left-back after losing Matt Targett to parent club Southampton at the end of his loan this summer. Wolves look set to make a move for Manchester City for Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to reports.

It is claimed by The Mirror the Premier League new boys have struck a deal which could be worth up to £16m to the champions. Left full-back Zinchenko, who can also play in midfield, made only six Premier League starts for last term. The 21-year-old signed from Russian side Ufa two years ago is very much on the fringes of Pep Guardiola’s star-studded squad.

But if the deal goes ahead it is likely to break Wolves’ club transfer record of £15.8m spent on Ruben Neves last summer. Zinchenko has been capped 17 times by Ukraine and was loaned out to PSV Eindhoven in 2016/2017, playing 16 times. He played against Wolves in the Carabao Cup last season.
