Chelsea star played through illness in World Cup final for France

The Chelsea midfielder was not at his usual high standards, and was withdrawn before the hour mark in Moscow. Ever since arriving at Leicester City in 2015, N’Golo Kante’s performances have continued to astound critics the world over. From playing in Ligue 2 just five years ago, the France midfielder is now a two-time Premier League winner, a Ballon d’Or nominee and has multiple Champions League appearances to his name.He is also now a World Cup winner, having lifted the trophy with France on Sunday.

The Chelsea midfielder was clearly under the weather in the final, though, and looked a shadow of his former self during the clash in Moscow. After picking up an uncharacteristic booking, Didier Deschamps decided to replace Kante with Steven N’Zonzi just ten minutes into the second half.Such was the dip in his own personal high standards, L’Equipe gave him a match rating of just 3/10.But, according to La Parisien, the 27-year-old was suffering with gastroenteritis (in other words, he had diarrhoea).
