England star posts hilarious tweet after penalty shootout win over Colombia

England beat the South American nation from 12 yards after a 1-1 draw in the World Cup last-16.

The Three Lions will now face Sweden in the quarter-finals on Saturday (3pm) as they hunt a first World Cup since 1966.

Lingard played the full 120 minutes though did not step up for a penalty with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford the hero.

The win led to more tweets from England fans stating ‘It’s coming home’ and Manchester United star Lingard joined in with them.

Accompanied by a photo of himself on the phone, Lingard tweeted: “No mum, I’m not coming home. It’s…”

‘It’s coming home’ is becoming England fans’ strap-line for the tournament with many supporters tweeting the slogan.

The phrase comes from a Baddiel & Skinner & Lightning Seeds song pre-Euro 96, when the tournament was hosted in England.

The English famously invented the beautiful game and the song is a throwback to how football is returning.

The chorus of the song proclaims “It’s coming home, it’s coming home, it’s coming, football’s coming home.”

Ultimately, football never did return home years but England fans seem confident that it will this year.

The shootout win over Colombia was the first time England have ever won via the method in the World Cup, having been beaten from 12 yards in 1990, 1998 and 2006.
