Fabregas blasts former Spain coach

Cesc Fabregas has blasted Former Spain national coach Julen Lopetegui for leaving the Chelsea player out of the final Spain 23 man World Cup squad. Fabregas had been present in Spain’s squad for the 2006, 2010 and 2014 editions.

When the now-Real Madrid coach signed a new contract to coach the national team until 2020, the Chelsea player understood his time with La Roja was over.

“When he [Lopetegui] renewed I already practically said goodbye,” the player said in an interview on Radio MARCA.

“Now that what has happened has happened, the doors are reopened to all of the players who Lopetegui didn’t believe in.”

Discussing his disappointment at missing out on this tournament, Fabregas said he’d have loved to go to Russia with the team.

“This would have been my fourth World Cup and it would have excited me a lot, but it couldn’t be in the end,” he said.

He went on to insist that he is supporting those who are in the squad every step of the way.
