Tottenham Identify Portugal International as the Ideal Replacement for Dembele

Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario who spent last season on loan at West Ham United, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian club meanwhile are still in negotiations with Spurs over a deal for Mousa Dembele with Inter planning to use Mario as a ploy to land the Belgian midfielder.

Mauricio Pochettino believes that the 25-year-old possesses the desired characteristics to fit in his team and is pushing for Tottenham to sign the Portuguese international.

Mario has confirmed that he will not return to Inter Milan this summer following a disappointing spell at the club.

He was sent to West Ham United on loan in January 2018, having made just 15 appearances for the Nerazzurri during the first-half of last season.

With Tottenham showing an interest in signing the player, Inter hope to offload Mario back to the Premier League and also hope to use the former Sporting Lisbon man as part of a deal for Mousa Dembele.
