Kimmich lashes out at teammates after Mexico defeat

Germany faced a shock defeat at the hands of Mexico in their Group F clash of the FIFA World Cup 2018 as Hirving Lozano’s sole strike proved to be the difference between the two sides. Disappointed with the defeat, German defender Joshua Kimmich lashed out at his teammates for not showing heart on the field.

World champions Germany were stunned by Mexico in their Group F opener of the FIFA World Cup 2018. Joachim Low’s men were handed `a bitter 1-0 defeat with the Mexican defenders producing one of their finest display. German defender Joshua Kimmich, who had a good game in an otherwise lacklustre display from his side, was critical of his team’s approach in the game as he lambasted his teammates after the defeat.

It was the first time since 1982, that Germany lost their World Cup opener and deservingly so, as the reigning champions were arguably the second-best side in the game with the Mexicans dominated the proceedings in the first half. It was only in the second half that the Germans upped the ante but it was too late by then as they had already lost control of the game.

Hirving Lozano’s sole strike in the 55th minute of the game was enough to sink Germany – who despite having a star-studded line-up on the pitch were comfortably outclassed by Mexico. Following the defeat, Kimmich didn’t hold back and pointed out that losing the ball too often cost Germany dearly.

“The mentality when facing a match of this level also counts, quality is not enough. We lacked that too, so many mistakes were made. Removing Saudi Arabia we have not won the last six games. You cannot compare the friendlies, in which the opponent does not press you as much as a qualifying round or a World Cup,” Kimmich was quoted as saying by Goal.
