Mexico, 1970: Colour came to our screens

The World Cup began in the Aztec Stadium with a game between Mexico and the USSR, the first edition that broadcasted onto colour television. It was the first time that viewers saw the yellow of the referee’s card, and also the first occasion that substitutions were used, with Anatoli Puzach replacing Viktor Serebryanikov for the Soviet Union.
