Guardiola: Zidane was my Idol as a Player

Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he idolized Zinedine Zidane as a player.

“I admire him a lot, he was one of my idols as a player.” Guardiola said of the former Real Madrid manager.

When asked for his opinion about the Frenchman’s decision to retire a few days after winning the Champions League, Guardiola said that he was not in a position to judge the reasoning since he didn’t win three Champions League titles with Barcelona. He however admitted that it was a very rare and dignified thing to do.

“What he’s done is very dignified. Managers normally end up leaving due to their results. what Zidane has done is very rare. Leaving like he has is very similar to Luis Enrique, who won a lot of titles with Barca playing incredible football. You leave when you feel the time is right.”
