Polio Campaign With Massive Target Launched In Nairobi

From Wednesday, the Government is going to conduct a polio vaccination campaign in Nairobi. The campaign hopes to boost the immunity of children under the age of five, the Health Ministry said..

“The polio vaccine has been certified as safe and effective by the World Health Organisation… alongside religious leaders,” Director of Medical Services Jackson Kioko said in the statement.

The campaign plans to vaccinate 800,000 children who are upto five years of age and will take between 9th and 13th May.

Later, the government plans to extend the Oral Polio Vaccination (OPV) campaign to high risk counties between June and July 2018.

Kenya is still at high risk of polio infection due to low immunization coverage heightened by movement of population across neighboring countries.
