The music industry is quite a competitive field, this explains why some artists are working extra hard to put the best of dance moves in music videos.
Even though song and dance have always gone together, there are songs in particular that were made big because of the unique moves. However, there are some dance moves that have become so iconic that they overshadow the songs.
It’s actually very hilarious to watch and engage yourself in moves that are relatively easy to adopt.
Here then are the dances that took Kenyans by storm.
Kanyanga Lami
This dance move became more defined after Timeless Noel and Jabidii released their hit song Kanyanga Lami late last year.
However, this style was pushed through by Ethic Entertainment in their Gengetone song Lamba lolo.
Malwedhe dance
Malwedhe dance which needed one to ‘collapse’ during took Kenyans by storm even though they don’t understand it’s lyrics.
It is credited to 26-year-old South African star King Monada in song dubbed Malwedhe Idibala.
ODI DANCE
TV host Timeless Noel , Hype Ochi and Jabidii are the founders of the Odi dance in their song Odi which means ordinary.
It probably traces its roots from the 90’s dance of Kuku dance but late last year it took over the dance floor.
Though it has reached the high and mighty, even getting mzungus dancing it on youtube, Odi dance is still considered the dance of the ghetto.
Vimbada
Kenyan gospel stars Moji Short Baba and Jabidii gave Kenyans a refreshing dance move In their song Vimbada.
The song features creative dance moves that involve swinging arms up-down in turns while the legs are slightly folded.
Nyonga Kibaskeli
No song spiraled into craze mode along with its moves the way Inama a song by Tanzanian musical heavyweights Diamond Platimunz and King of Rumba Fally Ipupa did.
Kibaskeli was just one dance move in the song but it is driving Kenyans crazy.
BAZOKIZO
Veteran Collo and Bruz Newton came up with an iconic move that made the song what it is today.
The dance has been replicated by thousands online and become arguably one of Kenya’s most recognizable dance moves globally.
ZIGWEMBE
Singer and dancer Bruz Newton came up with Zigwembe after Bazokizo trended.
You know a dance move is popular when 60-year-old grandfathers start asking their grandchildren what Zigwembe is.
It was created by the choreographers of Bazokizo and it took Kenya by storm.
