Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar Junior is one of the few highly-rated football players in this new era who have received so much hatred from fans.
Since his move from Barcelona in 2017, the 27-year-old has experienced a torrid time, marred by injuries and several cases of misconduct involving him with fans and teammates.
After feeling that his relationship with the French giants had sored, Neymar declared his intention to return to Nou Camp, a place where he experienced football paradise alongside the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.
The negotiation for his return to Barca has faced a myriad of challenges as both teams have failed to agree on terms, with Nasser Al-Khelaifi remaining adamant about recovering in full the fee paid to sign the Brazilian international from Barca.
The anger that Barcelona fans had when Neymar departed has turned to PSG fans, who have stated that they will not miss the Brazilian if he leaves Les Parc des Princes this summer.
According to former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra, many people do not like Neymar because he has remained truly himself.
“I think Neymar, there are a lot of people who don’t like him. The problem in this world is when you are yourself, people hate you, and when you lie, people love you.
“Neymar, I always speak with him and I think that god would realize his plans. It’s always like that, when you arrive, you are the king of the world, and when you leave, looks like Neymar murdered someone.
“This is not the case. You’ll see, people miss him for his genius, his way of playing. It’s true that with his dribbling, he sometimes gets annoyed, but it’s his football, he has to stay himself. And I assure you, people will regret him very much,” said Evra.
