Nairobi Stima pair of winger Curtis Wekesa and striker Dennis Oalo has joined Kenyan Premier League champions, Gor Mahia Opera News understands.
Oalo, a diminutive striker, scored 24 league goals for Kisumu AllStars and Nairobi Stima during the 2018/19 National Super League (NSL) season making him one of the most sought-after strikers in Kenya heading into the 2019/20 Kenyan Premier League campaign.
The striker joined Stima in March 2018 from Kisumu AllStars but couldn’t lead his club to the Kenyan Premier League as Power-Men missed out on promotion after losing to Posta Rangers in the playoffs. He scored in both playoff legs as his side lost on a 3-2 aggregate.
Wekesa on the other hand joined Stima at the start of 2018/19 season after a short stint with Sony Sugar. He played a key role in Stima’s unsuccessful push for promotion by scoring a number of key goals. He also earned a call-up to the Kenya U-23 team in 2019 and featured against Sudan.
“Oalo and Wekesa have moved to Gor Mahia. They got some good offers from Gor and we could not stand on their way. We wish them all the best for the future,” a Stima club official told Opera News.
The pair’s arrival takes the number of new faces at Gor Mahia to four following the arrival of Rwandan midfielder Djabel Imanishiwe and Kenya U23 midfielder Tobias Otieno who joined from Sony Sugar.
“I have joined Gor Mahia on a three-year deal. Gor is a big club and I believe I will grow to become a better player there. I will do my best to earn a place in the team because I know competition in the team is stiff,” Wekesa told Opera News.
