The former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, seems to be having a soft spot for Uhuru Kenyatta. Well, we are not sure if it is because of the handshake, but for whatever reason, he is impressed with the president’s speech made on Thursday during the state of the Nation address.
Raila Odinga has hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta for highlighting issues concerning Kenyans. He said that Uhuru has shown that he has interests of the Kenyan people at heart.
He, however, said that the address wasn’t a forum for him to sack any cabinet secretary. His remarks come at a time when Uhuru has declared war against graft.
“I don’t think it is the duty of the President to fire anybody. This is supposed to be the state of the nation address.
“He had to say, in his view, what the nation is doing and I think in that regard he did very well by highlighting key issues that affect the lives of the people of Kenya,” he said moments after Uhuru’s address outside Parliamentary buildings on Thursday.
In his speech, Uhuru reiterated his stand on the fight against runaway corruption.
He said that he will not tolerate persons who loot tax pays money at the expense of development as long as he remains in power.
“It is not enough to merely jail and fine those who have looted our public coffers. The wealth they stole from Kenyans must be returned to its owners, the people of Kenya with the clear message being that corruption does not pay,” Uhuru said.
