The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has advised motorists to avoid Naivasha-Mai Mahiu highway after the Sunday, March 24, earthquake left behind scary fault line on the usually busy road. The authority directed that drivers of private vehicles to use Kamandura-Limuru-Kinungi-Naivasha highway instead.
In a statement released on Monday morning, the highways authority also cautioned those operating heavy commercial vehicles to strictly adhere to the directions provided by the traffic police.
According to the KeNHA, the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu highway is currently not safe for motorists after the Sunday earthquake caused huge cracks on a bridge near Fai Amarillo factory, about 8km from Naivasha, Mai Mahiu bound.
The authority stated it had dispatched engineers to the affected area to assess the damage caused and take appropriate action. βThe traffic police have been deployed to the site to direct traffic on a detour of the road section that has been created to facilitate traffic flow,β the highways authority said in its statement.
