Over time, your iron will develop scorch marks as part of normal wear and tear. These marks can also stain your clothes if you’re not careful, and we wouldn’t want that.
The good news is we live in a glorious era of weird and wonderful cleaning hacks, so fear not – there’s a solution for those pesky scorch marks.
- Paracetamol
All you need is a pack of paracetamol tablets to get your iron sparkling clean again. Turn your iron onto the highest heat setting.
Then, hold the Paracetamol tablet with a pair of tweezers and, taking care, rub it over the hot metal surface. You should see the stains quickly slide off.
2. Baking Soda
Another popular trick is to make a paste with two tbsp of baking soda and one tbsp of water. You then spread this over the cool plate and rub with a soft, non-scratch cloth.
3.Sea salt
Simply sprinkle salt onto a clean, dry cotton cloth placed on your ironing board, then gently iron over cloth several times until the stains come off.
4.Tomato Sauce
Apply some tomato sauce or ketchup on the area affected, then let it seat for a while and them wipe it off with a wet cloth
5. Newspaper
Heat the iron to the highest temperature. Put a clean, dry cloth on the ironing board and cover it with a piece of newspaper. Iron the paper with the heated iron. Go though the paper a few times and the firm, burn fabric pieces left on the metal plate will fall. You can also use a paper handkerchief.
6. Dish-washing Detergent
Dilute 2 tbs. dish-washing liquid in a large bowl of warm water. Soak an old towel or cloth into the mixture and lay it in plastic basin. Put your iron on the wet towel ad let it soak for couple of hours. Wipe the metal plate with sponge, gently scrubbing away the residues.
7. Vinegar
Preheat the iron slightly and then turn it off. It should be so warm that you can touch it without burning yourself. Take a piece of cotton cloth, soak it in white vinegar, and scrub onto the mineral spots.
8.Toothpaste
Cover the cold plate of the iron with non-gel toothpaste and let it like this for 2-3 minutes. To polish the surface, wipe it with soft cotton towel with gentle circular motions. Rinse the toothpaste. Turn the iron on maximum temperature and push the steam button, to clean any toothpaste residue, left in the steam vents.
If there are mineral buildups in the steam vents dip a cotton bud in thick paste made of baking soda and water and gently clean the holes. Rinse with water and run the steam to clean the residues from the paste.
