Supreme Court dismisses an appeal by Walter Nyambati to unseat Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama, judges rule he was validly elected.
In their ruling, upheld the election of John Nyagarama as Nyamira Governor , terming the petition by Walter Nyambati did not property invoke the jurisdiction of the court.
In February 2018, the High Court also upheld Governor Nyagarama’s re-election.
In his ruling, Justice James Aaron Makau said that the petitioner failed to produce evidence for his allegations and mostly worked on suspicion.
Justice Makau further ordered the petitioner Walter Nyambati, to pay petition costs amounting to Ksh.5 million.
Walter Nyambati of Jubilee Party was Governor Nyagarama’s closest rival and garnered 58,936 votes while Governor Nyagarama got 63,949 votes.
