Kalenjin Rapper Msupa S has thrown shade to Wasafi artists and called them ‘outsiders’
The Kenyan artists questioned why the Wasafi Artists had to usher the new year in Kenya and not back in their country.
The Singer claimed that the Tanzanian artists had stayed in Kenya for a long time and Kenyans worship them instead of promoting their own artists.
“These so called Tanzanian Top artists kwani huko kwao hakuna show za kufunga mwaka ama watanzania hawajiwezi kujilipa? Wamekwamilia hapa Kenya sana this year. We should promote our own artists and stop worshipping these outsiders. We got more than them hapa Kenya. Ama namna gani?” Msupa S said
Clearly this has been the mood of other Kenyans who feel that not much support is given to local talents.
Even so, understanding that all Kenyan artists should be given well deserved support, this can not be achieved by hating on other artists.
It honestly doesn’t solve the problem. What is key is working together and laying out strategies to see that locals promote Kenyan content.
Even so, Msupa S adding on to her statement called upon Kenyans to unite and hold together the music industry with the intention of contributing to it’s growth.
Her sentiments came from Naiboi’s last night performance at Wasafi Festival as she claimed that the fans did not seem to know his songs and implied that it felt like a visitor’s performance.
She also noted that as artists, they will try their best too
“So, am requesting Kenyan media please play our own music into maximum. Support na roho moja. So that, when a Kenyan is performing doesn’t look like a visitor in our own country. Mafans hawajui ngoma zake. Please Kenyan Media lets do something. We as artist shall work hard too.” she said
