Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has directed the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to hasten investigations into the fatal shooting of Leeds University student Carilton David Maina in Kibera.
The 23-year-old boy, who was on long holiday and had decided to visit his family in Kenya, was shot dead on Saturday morning despite reports that he had surrendered.
In tweet posted Wednesday by the National Police Service, IG Boinnet further assured the public that action will be taken depending on the outcome of the investigations.
“We wish to inform the public that the Inspector General of Police has asked IPOA to expedite investigations into the shooting incident that occurred in Kibera within Nairobi County in which one Carlton Maina was shot and fatally injured,” read the tweet.

The deceased’s love for football earned him a scholarship at the UK college soon after clearing his high school education at the Maseno School in 2013 where he emerged with an A-plain.
Brilliant young life cut short #JusticeForMaina . Many adults cannot express themselves so eloquent let alone his agemates. We should not criminalise living in Kibera or any other slum for that matter. He was also behind a biogas invention as clean energy . RIP Maina. pic.twitter.com/A7Lzkz5JJz
