Detective have seized 202 containers containing maize contaminated with aflatoxin at a Container Freight Station (CFS)in Mombasa County.
The containers which contain 105,040 bags of 90 kilogrammes each is believed to have been imported into the country on September last year.
According to the officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) ,the maize was declared unfit for human consumption by Kenya Bureau of Standards on August 23 this year.
“The bags have been lying in this CFS since last year. They were declared unfit for human consumption, but the importer is seeking ways to sell to millers,” said the detective.
Adding that, according to the documents, the maize was imported from Mozambique.
It seems like cartels are determined to flood the market with fake goods at the expense of Kenyans.
Not along ago detectives in Nairobi seized several bails of expired wheat flour in a house within Sirangi in Nairobi’s Dandora area after they raided the house following a tip off from members of the public.
The two suspects were repacking the flour before being ambushed by the detectives.
