What could be Mount Kenya legislators be cooking in Naivasha since the last time we heard Naivasha news , donkeys were extict ?
On 28th October about 70 legislators with roots in the Mount Kenya region met in Naivasha for closed-doors talks where President Uhuru Kenyatta’s succession, the upcoming boundaries review, and impeding national census took centre stage.
The leaders’ debate on who the region would back post-Uhuru’s presidency in 2022 was said to have been thwarted amid claims that the topic had been vetoed from high offices.
Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has said Mount Kenya will not support any deal that oppresses the residents.
With the transfer or delegation of power to a lower level, especially by central government to local or regional administration central kenya should be careful with their claims.
He spoke ahead of a meeting of the region’s leaders in Naivasha on Monday. No resolution had been reached by press time.
However, Mwaura told journalists the mood was that any deal to be reached before the next poll will be critically looked at.
He said they were to address concerns that the region has been overlooked by the current administration.

“Following what we have seen, we cannot strike any political deals that will oppress our people.”
Mwaura said Mt Kenya region gave the largest percentage of overall votes for the current regime ‘yet lags behind on matters development’.
Over 80 legislators, among them Senators, Woman MPs, attended the Naivasha meeting.
Moses Kuria, Martha Wangari, David Gikaria, Maina Kamanda, Charles Kanyi, Jane Kiharia, Faith Wairimu and Alice Wahome were present.

Others are Cecil Mbarire, Irungu Kang’ata, Rachel Shebesh, and Mwaura.
A source at the meeting intimated that the main focus of the meeting was to deliberate on Mt Kenya’s gains in supporting the UhuRuto presidency.
The region overwhelmingly voted Jubilee’s President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto.
According to the source, there are concerns that the top leadership for focusing more on other areas in terms developments while the region is neglected.
The leaders’ debate on who the region would back post-Uhuru’s presidency in 2022 was said to have been thwarted amid claims that the topic had been vetoed from high offices.
Sources privy to the goings-on at the meeting said politicians were keen to establish how the region could capitalise on the remaining years of the Uhuru administration to remain economically grounded even after 2022, irrespective of who would win the presidency.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of numerous visits by DP William Ruto to the region as he seeks to consolidate support for his 2022 presidential bid. Some leaders from the region have argued that the DP is not the automatic Uhuru successor while others have maintained that they will back him.
