A lesbian movie that has faced criticism since day 1 was today screened at the Prestige Cinema. While some argue that the film deserved to be banned, giving their reasons that it promotes homosexuality and is against the morals and values upheld within the Kenyan country. Others seem to be totally okay with it arguing that times have changed and therefore it is important to acknowledge the fact that homosexuality is already in existence.
Apparently many people seem to have liked it and sources reveal that upon request, the film had to be screened for the second time to allow others to watch it since the place was flooded. The turn up was overwhelming as seen in the photos shared on social media.
According to the CEO of Kenya films and classification board, he says that people must encourage the union between people of the opposite sex.
The desire of every parent is to bring up morally upright children who get married and bear children and perpetuate the family. Family is the basic unit of society and therefore we must encourage the union between two people of the opposite gender

Some Kenyans however have different sentiments
Sexuality is a critical issue in our society. I have seen people struggle upto the point of becoming suicidal because society doesn’t accept you if you are gay. Sometimes it is not a choice, it is just who you are #Rafiki

I’ll talk to power company to switch of the power. We can’t allow screening of #Rafiki in Kenya.

Clearly we can say that this debate is not the kind that will soon come to an end the issue of sexuality in general is broad and therefore anything revolving around it can put up a stir.
In Mutua’s words ”The debate about homosexuality is bigger than the movie RAFIKI.”
The debate about homosexuality is bigger than the movie RAFIKI. It’s about our values, family and the future of Kenya. There will be no future unless we start downloading kids from the internet. Family is derived from a union btn two people of the opposite gender.@KimaniNjogu
