Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola claims he was misquoted on the details regarding Kevin De Bruyne’s release clause.
Guardiola was said to have revealed that the Belgian midfielder, currently sidelined through injury, had a £223 million release clause.
But Guardiola said at a press conference on Friday: “I don’t know what his release clause is. The journalist asked if I would sell him for £250million and I said no.”
Vincent Kompany joined City 10 years ago this week. Guardiola said: “Happy anniversary. He has played many games and it is unfortunate he has not played more.
“There is no doubt about his quality. When fit he is an excellent centre-back and a big personality.”
On Raheem Sterling’s contract talks, Guardiola added: “It is well known we are delighted with him and we would like it to continue.”
Guardiola also said Sterling is fully recovered from the injury that prevented him from playing for England, adding: “He is fit for the weekend. In the last day he has been better.”
