Ruto Demands KSh 2b for Foreign Trips; Several Unions to Hold Anti-Govt Demos Today & Ruto’s Plan Should MPs Shoot Down Finance Bill

Good morning,

Over the last few days, there has been a raging political debate on the woes surrounding former Mungiki sect leader Maina Njenga.

Njenga who was Thursday grilled by DCI detectives in Nairobi is facing several charges among them being a member of an organized criminal group and unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of bhang, and possession of records likely to be useful to a person preparing a serious crime.

Reacting to these charges, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has now warned the former Laikipia senatorial candidate against reviving the sect and cautioned of grave consequences.

The DP slammed Njenga for allegedly manipulating the youth to enrich himself through the operations as he claimed that the former sect leader was the sole beneficiary, referencing the nine-posh mansions that the latter built across the country.

However, Njenga supporters, among them a section of Azimio leaders, have vehemently defended him with Martha Karua claiming that the DCI was violating Njenga’s right to legal representation. She also expressed fear that they would prejudice Njenga’s right to a fair trial.

Do you think Maina Njenga is planning to revive the Mungiki sect or are the charges he is facing politically motivated?
