President William Ruto and Opposition party leader Raila Odinga have finally bowed to pressure following numerous calls that urged them to be open for dialogue after their fallout since the outcome of the 2022 general elections.

The duo separately made statements on Sunday with the head of state pleading with Raila to call off demonstrations and shift his focus to having a meaningful conversation about how to move the country forward.

In his statement, Raila gave a warm response to Ruto’s call for dialogue but maintained that his party will take to the streets if the dialogue does not help them arrive at a meaningful agreement. Even so, President Ruto has also insisted that there will be no room handshake.

This move by the two leaders has sparked mixed reactions from other politicians and Kenyans at large with a number expressing their varied expectations online.
