Amid the ongoing rise of insecurity cases in parts of the North rift, the government has reiterated its commitment to restoring safety in the areas by dealing with the culprits fueling banditry in the region.

In a recent move, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in 5 counties [Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, West Pokot, Samburu, and Laikipia] which have been identified as high-risk areas. The month-long curfew will allow deployed officers to execute an operation to flush out the criminals after calls to have them surrender went futile.

Since the launch of this exercise, the government has already begun making arrests with the most recent being of Pokot South MP David Pkosing who has been accused of incitement.

According to media reports utterances made by the legislator on social media, media, and public rallies contributed to his arrest.

Earlier on, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya in an explosive interview alleged that some politicians as well as police officers have been working with the bandits for personal gains.
