On Saturday, President Uhuru Kenyatta elicited mixed reactions after he spoke for the first time of an alleged plan by his deputy, William Ruto, to engineer his ouster through impeachment and sabotage.
According to the Head of State, Ruto was hungry for power and was keen on causing dissent from within the Jubilee party in a bid to get him out of power through the backdoor.
Uhuru, who was addressing Gikuyu elders in State House, explained that he reached out to his arch-rival, ODM leader Raila Odinga, to help his government against Ruto’s grand plan to sabotage his administration.
President Uhuru further accused Ruto of being impatient and a leader who focused more on the 2022 succession politics than the execution of his duties as his principal assistant.
However, Ruto’s camp dismissed the allegations terming them “reversed psychology” and a desperate move by the President to win votes for Raila after his succession plan went wrong.
The deputy president stated that he has always done his duties diligently and thoughts of impeachment never crossed his mind as he pointed out that he helped President Kenyatta get into office both in 2013 and 207.
