Ruto Forced to Act as a Mole Records and Leaks his Secret Meetings; Trouble For Ruto as Details Emerge on What His Allies Are Planning & Azimio Distances Itself From Atwoli’s Suicide Remarks

Good morning,

It is now evident more than 3.5 million young Kenyans who acquired national identity cards recently, for one reason or another, failed to register as voters, with only six months to the General Election.

It is not in doubt that the youth are the backbone of any political system in the world. They form the majority of voters; they are the most affected by government policies and equally, they stand to benefit the most when the leadership is right.

Despite the above, youthful Kenyans seem aloof when it comes to determining the next crop of leaders but they are at the forefront of the campaigns, engaged in temporary jobs for politicians. In some instances, they have been used to cause violence or deface campaign materials of opponents. This has been the narrative for the longest time when it comes to the young people in Kenya; being detached from politics.

But in reality, the situation is more complex than that. The youth have often been ignored until the campaign period, with most of their concerns – from unemployment to poverty – cast aside, only to emerge as election promises that never pan out.

Unless a new strategy is found, this will be the trend, a cycle of complaining of voter apathy every election year yet nothing is done to address burning issues.

Nonetheless, the Mt Kenya region still registered a high number of new voters with all votes totalling 5.85 million votes.

What do you think caused the low voter registration among the youth in Kenya?

Meanwhile, here are stories making headlines on Opera News today:
