Good morning fellow Kenyans,
Happy new month everyone! Welcome to the month of love after 147 days of January.
After a rather eventful weekend politics-wise, daggers have already been drawn for next year’s showdown seemingly pitting the hustlers versus the dynasties.
What remains to be a mystery, however, is who will get the much-coveted support by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his mouth-watering backyard of Central Kenya.
The Head of State on Saturday held a high-profile meeting at the Sagana State Lodge where he hosted leaders from the mountain to assert his political authority, with the summit coming against a backdrop of a disgruntled Mt. Kenya region and the president’s festering relationship with his deputy William Ruto.
Moreover, politicians from the vote-rich region wrote to President Kenyatta ahead of the Sagana meeting, expressing their dissatisfaction with his leadership and most notably having betrayed his deputy who he had promised to support during the 2013 and 2017 elections.
Uhuru, of course, rubbished claims that he had any political debt owed to Ruto or anyone for that matter.
Therefore, without a lack of a clear successor from Mt. Kenya when he retires, who do you think Uhuru is likely to back during next year’s elections?
Here are the stories making headlines on Opera News today:
