Why Waiguru’s Ouster Will Collapse; Tanga Tanga Woman Rep Agrees to Work With Raila & Criminal Cops Won’t Be Protected – Charles Owino

Good morning fellow Kenyans,

We start the day on a sad note after dozens of Kenyans are feared trapped following the collapse of a four-storey in Kericho town on Tuesday night.

Poor workmanship reportedly led to the collapse of the building.

Despite the number of casualties remaining unknown yet, Kenya’s long history of housing disasters is well-documented with failed construction structures being on the rise.

After eight buildings collapsed and killed 15 people in Kenya in 2018, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered an audit of all the country’s buildings to see if they were up to code.

The National Construction Authority (NCA) found that a whopping 58% of the buildings in Nairobi alone were unfit for habitation.

A few buildings, in what many termed as public relations stunt, were brought down across the city as we waited for the next disaster.

According to the NCA, a lack of coordinated efforts has led to a proliferation of the industry with quack practitioners with developers taking advantage of the inadequate capacity to effectively enforce the building and infrastructural standards.

Let’s pray for victims of the Kericho disaster as we condemn failure by the authorities to ensure such substandard buildings do not claim the lives and property of innocent Kenyans.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was impeached by the county’s ward representatives over alleged abuse of office and gross violation of the law. However, a number of pundits have raised serious fundamental questions of the law over how the entire process was carried out with the county assembly being accused of acting in contempt of the High Court by proceeding with the impeachment motion. Do you think Waiguru will survive the ouster in the Senate or should she await the fate that befell her Kiambu counterpart Ferdinand Waititu?
