Shock as Man Beheads Uncle, Takes Head to His Aunty; Uhuru Approves Education Curriculum Changes & Uhuru Anxious as Nasa Left-outs Could Hand Ruto Political Lifeline

Good morning fellow Kenyans,

We are coming to the end of another week and sadly COVID-19 cases in the country tend to be taking a worrying curve.

At 58 deaths, Kenya seems to have avoided a full-blown crisis but the ever-rising new infections should be a warning sign to all that the worst is yet to come.

That being said, the government must come clean on the discrepancies in the statistics being reported by the Ministry of Health (MOH) every day. According to MOH, only 641 active cases are currently admitted in various hospitals which translates to 39% of infections.

Whilst the situation looks bearable, concerns are rising over a large number of patients still unaccounted for. The total infections so far stand at 1618, deaths at 58 and 421 recoveries. This means that there are 1139 active cases, but with 641 hospitalised, a balance of 498 remains a mystery.

For instance, on Thursday Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced 147 new cases but only 55 were admitted. Same case for Wednesday where 123 new infections were reported but records show that only 29 were hospitalised. This paints a glaring mismatch of the real situation in the country that will continue raising questions until health officials give a satisfactory explanation.

All this is happening amid a struggling economy with thousands of Kenyans losing jobs and others significantly reduced salaries as companies seek to stay afloat. As a matter of fact, 4 million Kenyans are set to lose their jobs according to an assessment report by Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA).

This adverse development begs the question, should the government take a bold decision of reopening the economy to save livelihoods but risk a spike in infections?

President Uhuru Kenyatta is a man in a dilemma after winning the support of all NASA principals in dealing with his deputy William Ruto. This means that as 2022 elections draw near, the five principals (Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Isaac Rutto), as well as KANU’s Gideon Moi, will in one way or another seek Uhuru’s endorsement for the top seat. Do you think the President really cares much about who succeeds him? And if he does, who is likely to win his support?
