Machakos County Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has rubbed Kenyans the wrong way after he shamed local scientists over finding the coronavirus cure.
Taking to his Twitter page early Wednesday morning, the politician bashed Kenyan proffessors for staying home instead of helping to find a cure.
“Are you sitting in the lab trying to come up with a cure for Covid-19 or you are just seated at home? Because we have very educated people here with papers, they teach people until they get PHDs,” he said.
“Professor mzima, where are you? Where is the solution you are giving to the world? Or are you seated here waiting for other countries to come up with a cure then import them here?” he posed.
“If you are at home and you are a full professor and you can be in the lab..shame on you….shame on you…shame on you…get out..do something to get a cure don’t just sit there waiting for importation,” he concluded.
What are our scientists and professors doing? Waiting for others to find a cure for Covid-19? Aiiiiiiiii. pic.twitter.com/Ej3wJK2KgH

The video has rubbed Kenyans the wrong way as most claim that neither he nor the government has helped the research process for local scientists. They have bashed him for blaming the scientists when no money is allocated for said practises.

At this day and time, some people cant differentiate between RESEARCH and TAKEAWAY ASSIGNMENTS. Or that is not taught in Comm skills 101?
Any research involving virulent strains of any pathogen should be done in Biosafety Lab Level 2 or 3. How many of such do we have in Kenya?

@DrAlfredMutua haya ndio matunda ya corruption. Where’s the money that should have been spent improving our research capacity and resources to empower us to deal with such a virus? What have you contributed to research in the past (tusiende mbali) 2 years in your county?

As a Dr yourself @DrAlfredMutua…you should know better than attack an institution that is not supported by GoK the way it needs to, in order to produce vaccines and cures using “home grown solutions”

How many research labs are in your county? How many health workers have you sponsored to engage in research based courses?

There is no sense here.Such leaders don’t lobby for the Research Funds, instead lobby for higher per diems.NGOs such as ICIPE,APHRC have better research programs than the govt.Mutua just want to stay relevant coz BBI rallies aren’t there again.

How much is te govt paying our scientists? Do they even have equipped labs? Do they even have funds to carry out the studies. If you are a leader in Kenya before you open your mouth to say something please think of your contribution towards this society.

57 years after independence, #Kenya in the midst of @KeForestService @kefri bamboo plantations imports 100% of its toothpick demand. Our scientists & professors cant figure out how to manufacture a toothpick they put in their mouth 6 times in a day. Wait for their #covid19 cure
