Man City Midfielder Calls For Liverpool To Be Awarded Premier League Title

Manchester City midfielder Iker Gundogan said that it would be fair to award the English Premier League title to Jurgen Kloops Liverpool side.

Liverpool had lot just once in the league and were six points away from clinching their first top flight title in 30 years before the Corona epidemic struck. The virus has brought a standstill to most activities in the world and Football has not been an exception.

With things not getting any better, it is likely that the league season will be nullified which could see Liverpool lose out on the title. Gundogan who has won two league titles under Pep Guardiola insists that Liverpool should be named as Champions if the league will not continue.

Asked if the Reds should be given the trophy if the season is cut short, Gundogan told German broadcaster ZDF: “For me, that would be OK, yes.”

“You have to be fair as a sportsperson,” the 29-year-old Germany international added.

The midfielder also acknowledged the fact that football authorities are facing a mountain task to try come up with the best decision for all parties involved as far as the season is concerned.

“There are different opinions. For clubs who have had a very good season, it obviously wouldn’t be nice if it was cancelled now,” he said.

“On the other hand, for clubs who aren’t doing as well and are maybe in the relegation places, an abandonment would obviously suit them.”

The Premier League heads will meet on Friday to discuss on the fate of the season.
