Gideon Moi, Kamket Under Fire as Baringo MCAs Move to Tame Them Ahead of 2022

With just two years into the 2022 general elections, KANU party could be walking on a tight rope in Baringo county after more than 30 MCAs from the county, on Tuesday, moved to impeach their Deputy Speaker, Ameja Selemoi of KANU from his position.

Speaking after the impeachment, the MCAs, most of whom are allied to Jubilee’s Tanga-tanga faction, vowed to strengthen their political supremacy battles against their KANU rivals in the county.

Led by the leader of majority, Lawi Kipchumba of Lembus Kwen in Eldama Ravine, the MCAs maintained that, gone are the days when the leaders shared laughter with their rivals on mattes lawmaking in the assembly.

The MCAs revealed that the impeachment against their KANU counterpart was serving as a clear warning to two of the county’s leaders; Gideon Moi and Tiaty MP William Kamket, that the county was a Jubilee zone and was firmly behind the Deputy President William Ruto.

“County assembly and Baringo county are both firmly under the leadership of Jubilee. We now have 100% control of the county assembly. Our move to remove the Deputy Speaker who is a Kanu elected MCA, serves as a notice to Kamket. While he is busy preparing to go and impeach the Deputy President, he should as well know that his time is coming to an end in Baringo,” stated Mochongoi ward MCA Kipruto Kimosop.

A total of 36 members among them three from KANU wing signed for the impeachment motion.

While pointing out at the recent move by the police to lobby tear gas gannisters at Ruto’s supporters in Kabarnet town, the MCAs argued that their deputy speaker had failed to protect the interests of Jubilee party in the county.

They also accused MP Kamket of always taking ‘fake’ news to Gideon Moi claiming that KANU party was in control of Baringo county assembly.

“We heard they have been going to Kabarak, enticing Gideon Moi, that they are the ones who have a say in Baringo, more so in the assembly, let Gideon see for himself now who has been cheating who”, delighted Jubilee wingers said in unison.

“This is DP Ruto and Jubilee zone and from today, the few KANU members will know they have nothing to tell us”, maintained MCA Kimosop.

The vacant seat was given to Jubilee’s Jacob Cheboywo from Kisanana ward in Mogotio sub-county.

On his part, the ousted deputy speaker, Ameja Selemoi vowed to fight for senator Gideon Moi’s presidential bid, stating that the impeachment motion came with nothing but just a pure political war between KANU and their Jubilee counterparts.

“I know this came since a certain senior politician pumped money to ensure I am silenced”, Angry Selemoi claimed, adding the motion was spearheaded after last week’s pro-Ruto demos where Jubilee MCAs vowed to sweep out KANU counterparts in a bid to ‘clean’ the house.
