Your Insurance Does Not Cover Coronavirus, Sonko Ordered to Collect Garbage in 48 Hours & PM Post to Remain in New BBI Report

The deadly Coronavirus might be dominating world headlines but that is not a very big concern here in Kenya. Our leaders are more concerned about BBI and 2022 politics. These people don’t know that the virus can wipe all of them away before the next elections.

Deputy President William Ruto’s looming impeachment and the Nakuru BBI rally have dominated Kenyan newspaper headlines this week. A section of Ruto’s critics have urged him to resign or risk being impeached, the DP’s allies have challenged his critics to go ahead and introduce the impeachment motion.

Ahead of the rally in Nakuru, Kabarnet residents were on the receiving end of police brutality and teargas after staging illegal demos in the town. They were picketing to support the Deputy President.

Kabarnet is the political bedrock of Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, a sworn Ruto rival. Ruto’s allies have claimed that the large number of people who showed up for the demos means that their man has still got Rift Valley solidly behind him.

But what if the Kabarnet incident is the beginning of several ugly scenes in the Rift Valley. Should we expect pictures of police lobbying teargas at demonstrators in different places in the Rift?

Kenyans are used to demonstrations in Kondele and Kibra, which have for a very long time been opposition strongholds. Is Ruto preparing Rift Valley for a place in the opposition?

Here are the stories making headlines this morning:
