Sonko Back in Court to Fight Impeachment

Embattled Nairobi County governor Mike Sonko has yet again moved to court to fight his impeachment.

The flamboyant county chief on Monday moved to Milimani Law Courts seeking orders to stop MCAs from tabling his impeachment motion.

However, Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok says push to impeach Sonko cannot be stopped.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday met the Nairobi MCAs where service delivery and his big 4 agenda dominated the talks of the meeting.

A section of MCAs who attended the meeting say the head of state asked the MCAs to shelve motion against Sonko, claims that have been denied by Imwatok.

Speaking in a radio interview on Monday morning, Imwatok said President Kenyatta is being misquoted by the claims being made.

Sonko has up to today to respond to the impeachment motion tabled against him.

County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi had last week Tuesday given Sonko a seven day ultimatum to respond to the motion against him.

Sonko, who is not yet off the hook, Tuesday last week surrendered key county functions to the National government in a deal that was witnessed by devolution cabinet secretary Eugine Wamalwa, Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka and President Kenyatta at State House.

Sonko later noted that the deal was reached between him and the National Government for the good of Nairobi County residents.
